(ANI) New Delhi, Mar. 2 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh on Saturday lauded Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, considered by many to be the party''s Prime Ministerial candidate, for achieving a third consecutive victory in his state and enabling the main opposition party to create a new record in the Indian democratic history.
Singh said that the BJP had registered a third consecutive victory in a state under one person''s leadership in the Indian history till date until Modi made it possible.
"As far as I remember, the Bharatiya Janata Party has not registered a third consecutive victory in a state under one person''s leadership in the Indian history till date. You all know that we achieved a third electoral victory in Gujarat under Narendra Bhai''s leadership. He achieved a hat-trick and in true sense we all very happy when the Gujarat results were out. We all were extremely delighted for we had not seen the Bharatiya Janata Party achieve a third consecutive victory under one person''s leadership," said Singh.
"His government has earned praise from the international world, be it America, considered to be the most developed nation, or the European countries, all have praised his development model and good governance. And it''s quite natural that we all party workers must have had a pleasant feeling because of all this," he added.
Singh also expressed his gratitude to all the BJP party workers in Gujarat and the people of the state for making Modi the chief minister for a third consecutive term and enabling the Bharatiya Janata Party to create a new record.
The BJP President, who was addressing the two day BJP National Council meeting presently underway here, garlanded the Gujarat Chief Minister on the occasion and asked all those present to stand up and welcome him.
The conclave, being attended by prominent BJP leaders, will see the BJP deliberate on its roadmap in the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, besides discussing the political and economic issues confronting the nation.
BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain earlier in the day said the motive of this meet is to analyse the economic conditions of the country and also chalk out a strategy to counter the anti-people policies of the Congress-led UPA Government.
"Our party believes in good governance and we would pledge here at the meet to provide good governance to the nation. We would also discuss the strategy to counter the policies of the ruling Congress Party, which has been burning a hole in the pockets of the common man," said Hussain.
Members of BJP''s national council and executive, lawmakers, legislators, state office bearers, national coordinators of frontal organisations and some other party functionaries would attend the meeting.
