The Connection: Senate candidate in 2010 Democratic Primary, Florida

Greene lost his primary battle to Kendrick Meek, who in turn lost to up-and-coming Republican all-star Marco Rubio.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni 6th place in the International Cricket, ODI Ranking

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has moved up to the sixth place in the International Cricket Council's rankings for ODI batsmen after producing a 'player of the series' performance in the recent series against England.

Dhoni finished the five-match series as the leading run-getter with 236 runs at an average of little under 79. For this achievement, he has been rewarded with a jump of three places, which not only puts him in sixth position but also makes him the highest-ranked India batsmen after Virat Kohli dropped three places to ninth position following his 194 runs in the series.

Also moving in the right direction from the England series is home side's Jonathan Trott, who won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Cricketer of the Year award at the ICC Awards in London last week. Trott scored 111 runs from four matches and improved his own rating by six points, which has helped him leapfrog ahead of Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara into fourth position.

Both Dhoni and Trott will be aiming to further climb the ladder when they go head to head in the five-ODI series which starts in Hyderabad October 14. While Dhoni last topped the batting charts in June 2010, Trott is enjoying his career-best ranking to date.

Left-hand batsman Suresh Raina was the second leading run-getter for India with 198 runs, which has provided him a jump of five places to 30th spot. Ravi Bopara's effort of 197 runs in the series has earned him a jump of 14 places and puts him at the 64th spot.

India's Rahul Dravid has signed off on an illustrious ODI career in 118th position after playing his first series in two years. The former captain scored 128 runs in his final series, which earned him three places on the batting chart.

Dravid's 10,899 in 344 ODIs with 12 centuries and 83 half-centuries makes him the seventh highest run-getter in the history of ODI behind Sachin Tendulkar (18,111), Ricky Ponting (13,602), Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430), Inzamam-ul-Haq (11,739), Sourav Ganguly (11,363) and Jacques Kallis (11,227). During his career, the 38-year-old from Bangalore reached the highest ranking of fifth after the Edgbaston ODI against England on August 27, 2007, when he scored 56 in India's 42-run victory.

In the rankings for ODI bowlers, England's Graeme Swann has strengthened his position at the top of the tree. The off-spinner earned 25 ratings position for his eight wickets in the series, which have put him on a career-best 750 ratings points. India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the biggest mover. Ashwin took six wickets against England and jumped 34 places to 41st spot. Also rising in the rankings are England's fast bowler James Anderson in 11th (up by two places), Praveen Kumar of India in 21st (up by four places) and Mohammad Hafeez of Pakistan in 23rd (up by three places).

Bowlers losing ground include Saeed Ajmal of Pakistan in seventh (down by three places), England fast bowler Stuart Broad in 26th (down by four places), and Munaf Patel of India in 33rd (down by six places).

Amongst the all-rounders, Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez has broken into the top three for the first time in his career. The list is still headed by Shane Watson of Australia with Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan in second position. Source By

Charmee to Debut in Bollywood

South Indian Actress Charmee is debuting in the Bollywood movies with big stars like Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi and Arshad warsi in ‘Zilla Ghaziabad’ in which she plays a village girl and love interest of Vivek Oberoi though she has spoke in Telugu quite a few times with Vivek still being a Hindi speaking girl it is very difficult to grasp UP slang however  her voice is going to be dubbed.  Charmee denies the rumours of splitting  with close friend and music composer Devisreeprasad. She says he is still a close friend of her. Currently she is busy with Malayalam movie Pappana and Kannada movie Devson and also in telugu with director Chandu. -

Zilla Ghaziabad Week End Box Office Collection

Bollywood movie Zilla Ghaziabad has done a decent collection at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. But the Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi and Arsad Warsi starrer has failed to beat another new release Kai Po Che starring new comers like Sushant Singh Rajput and Rajkumar Yadav in leads.

It has landed in the second place, while the latter topped the collection chart. Zilla Ghaziabad, which released in a large number of theatres on February 22, registered very good occupancy in single screens across the country on Friday, while it had very low response in multiplexes. Overall, the movie has performed very well in mass circuits like Bihar, CP, CI, UP and Rajasthan.

The Anand Kumar directed flick was expected to show a big jump on Saturday. Instead of going upwards, Zila Ghaziabad witnessed decline in its business on the second day. And on Sunday, the business of the movie went up, but it was below the expected mark. It has collected Rs 10.75 crores nett at the domestic Box Office in the first weekend.

Its breakup is Rs 3.50 cr on Fri, Rs 3.25 cr on Sat and Rs 4 cr on Sun. However, Zilla Ghaziabad was a most-awaited action entertainer of the year 2012. The movie boasts of popular star cast and its makers had massive promotions for it. But the film got negative reviews from the film critics. Besides this, it got eclipsed by the flick Kai Po Che wave across major circuits. Trade experts feel that these two reasons cost its producers a lot.

Indian Mujahideen Outsmarts Security Agencies and Targeting India

At least seven major terror strikes since 2006 in the country have been linked to Indian Mujahideen, the banned terror outfit. Intelligence agencies consider the outfit’s leader, Bhatkal brothers, as India’s most wanted terror suspects. Agents believe the outfit now virtually works as a BPO unit for its handlers.

Every time terror strikes India, intelligence agencies turn the spotlight on three faces – Yaseen, Riyaz and Iqbal Shahbandari, better known by their suffix Bhatkal, except the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. As many as five states have arrested almost 93 Indian Mujahideen operatives after blasts, and each time, the outsourcing model of the outfit has outsmarted the police.

Intelligence agencies believe two of the Shahbandari brothers – Riyaz and Iqbal – mastermind operations from outside India, with their locations varying from Pakistan to Sharjah to Dubai, with the elusive Yaseen using his expertise in explosives and logistics to micro-manage operations in India. The Indian Mujahideen’s rise as a terror outfit has been quick despite the 2008 crackdown when the Intelligence Bureau and police went after them in Delhi.

Intelligence sources insist the Indian Mujahideen has replaced the waning influence of the D-company. Their use of outsourced foot-soldiers, recruited from small towns in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar, has allowed the terror tap to continue to flow despite arrests of key last-mile suspects like Maqbool, currently lodged in Tihar jail, and Fasih Mohammad and Danish Ansari.

Intelligence sources say IM’s rise is linked to Dawood’s failing health. They say Dawood’s younger brother Anees is focusing more on real estate, and Chhota Shakeel is re-investing his fortune in the corporate sector. In fact, Maharashtra police’s anti-terror squad is currently hunting for four key IM operatives who they believe struck not only in Mumbai’s Zaveri Bazaar, but could hold the key to Hyderabad’s twin blasts last week.

The use of cycles, the chemical composition of the bombs and the delivery mechanism has convinced investigators that Hyderabad was another Indian Mujahideen job. Their entire probe has focused on questioning IM suspects already in various jails across Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra and Ahmedabad, where the police had actually claimed to have ended the Indian Mujahideen by arresting 60 suspects in 2008.

The Hyderabad police now believe the IM continued to tap into local residents, with Yaseen providing explosive and logistics expertise. Police believe their efforts were helped by divisive local politics, keeping up the steady supply of operatives for blasts.

Before leaving India, Indian Mujahideen commanders were believed to be operating from Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area. An Indian Mujahideen suspect, Tarique, had told police that Yaseen even married a girl from the area.

Significantly, Yaseen had once slipped out of Kolkata police’s grasp with officers goofing up by arresting him only as a petty fake currency operator in 2009. Yaseen jumped bail and since then, he has been reported to be spotted in Chennai and Delhi and striking almost at will across the nation.

Countdown Start For Indian Budget 2013

Sectors on Radar

With barely a week left for the Union Budget 2013-14, major industrial sectors are awaiting government’s announcement that will not only give direction to the Indian economy but will also pave the road for development of these sectors. Here is a list of top five sectors which is most likely to be addressed in the Budget.

Real estate sector

Amidst demands of granting industry status to the housing sector, this year the real estate sector will be among the most watched. Industry bodies are also demanding tax exemption on Special Hosing Zones in line with Special Economic Zones. Allowing external commercial borrowing as per the FDI norms is also among the wishlist. Other pending reforms is the Land acquisition Bill, which, if passed will give a major boost to the real estate sector.

If the government fulfills the wishlist of the salaried class which includes separate provision for the principal loan amount which currently is included in 80C (under which maximum limit is one lakh all inclusive) it will bring positive impact to the realty sector.

Another demand of the salaried class is to hike the interest payments on home loan of upto minimum 3 lakh from current Rs 1.5 lakh which is eligible for deduction.

Though all the demands may not be fulfilled but if government fulfills a few of the demands, it will be fruitful for the realtors and their stocks. One can carefully watch real estate stocks during this Budget.

Automobile sector

Automobile sector is one major sector which should be closely watched during the budget. There is likelihood that the government may hike excise duty on diesel cars (mainly SUV) which has seen sharp reactions from the industry. If government goes ahead with the hike in excise duty it will bring negative impact on the whole sector. The stocks of auto companies may suffer.

Stocks of companies which have dominant presence in diesel vehicles will be net sufferer. However, the companies which deal mostly with petrol cars will not be affected much. But some respite may be seen if government decides to reduce excise duty on electric and hybrid cars. Other demands include reducing excise duty on small cars, buses and increase in expenditure in JNRUM scheme for urban development. But these decisions are unlikely to be taken in considering the ballooning fiscal crisis.

Banking

Government may go forth with issuing of more new licences in banking sector. This might cast a negative impact on the entire sector because the entry of new players will increase market competition.

Another demand raised by the banking sector allowing tax free infrastructure bonds so as to bring more funds. The banking sector remains at the priority list because these major decisions will give further direction to the sector. Banking stocks should be carefully watched because if the first decision of granting licence is okayed, the stocks of banks may go in red but the second decision might bring cheer across the banking stocks.

Insurance

Decision on FDI in insurance will be eagerly watched. The 49 percent FDI in insurance which has been on the back burner for quite some time now remains to be passed by the government.

Another major announcement awaited for the Insurance sector is the tax rebate under 80C. If government announces a separate provision of tax rebate, apart from 80C or hikes the tax exemption limit under 80C it will bring a positive response to the sector.

The Insurance sector’s stock might see a good rally.

Screen writers to correct Bollywood's drift from Reality

New Delhi (IANS): The country's top scriptwriters will pitch to correct Bollywood's growing disconnect with ground realities during the third Indian Screenwriters Conference, to be held in Mumbai Feb 25-27.

The industry experts will be deliberating on burning issues, such as the aam admi's (common man) struggle, rural exploitation, social injustice, caste oppression, economic polarisation and distress, at the St. Andrew's Auditorium, Bandra West, under the aegis of the Film Writers Association (FWA).

FWA is a nationally recognised body of scriptwriters in India, with over 17,000 members. The body has been instrumental in getting the Copyright Act amended for payment of royalty to screen writers. The Minimum Basic Contract, between writers and producers, which addresses these concerns, is also almost finalised.

"We have a packed schedule covering all aspects of screenwriting - from creative to commercial and legal, especially in the light of the Copyright Amendment Bill 2012. We are felicitating Salim Khan, Javed Akhtar, Gulzar and late Manohar Shyam Joshi," Kamlesh Pandey, general secretary of FWA, said in a statement.
"The screenwriting community meets every two years to debate issues important to us. At this third Indian Screenwriters Conference, we all felt that some reflection on these issues, some collective soul-searching, so to say, is called for," Pandey added.

For instance, the recent gang-rape in Delhi has set off a national debate on: How does popular culture portray women? What is the gender equation in cinema and TV? What impact does this have on the audience, reads the release.

As many as 800 established and budding screenwriters and writer-directors, including luminaries such as Ashutosh Gowariker, Govind Nihalani, Anurag Basu, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, will attend the conference.

Among the special invitees are Oscar winner scriptwriter Tom Schulman and Rebecca Kessinger, executive director, Writers Guild of America. Schulman is one of Hollywood's highest paid scriptwriters and has written "Dead Poets Society". He has also scripted the "Medicine Man" and "Honey I Shrunk the Kids".

Young turks of Indian screenwriting will also be in attendance. They include Juhi Chaturvedi ("Vicky Donor"), Urmi Juvekar ("Shanghai"), Bejoy Nambiar ("David"), Akshat Verma ("Delhi Belly"), Pubali Chaudhuri ("Kai Po Che"), Ravi Jadhav ("Natrang"), Abbas Tyrewala ("Jaane Tu...") and Habib Faisal ("Ishaqzaade").

Syrian rebels launch major offensive to capture strategic airport

SamayLive. :The rebels launched a major attack on the airport and the adjacent Nairab military airfield last week, and have since overrun the main army base protecting the area.Control of the airport would provide a significant boost for the opposition, and mark a strategic shift in the country's 23-month civil war.

The fighting has been raging for weeks, but it was only in early February after the rebels captured the strategic Aleppo neighborhood of Sheik Said near the airport, which has been shut down because of the violence, that the offensive gained momentum.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Aleppo Media Center reported that rebels captured the main fuel station on the Nairab base.
The Observatory said there were several regime casualties and five rebels, including foreign fighters, killed before rebels withdrew from the station a few hours later. The fight for the international airport in Aleppo, Syria's largest city and commercial hub, highlights the importance that both sides in the conflict place on controlling strategic assets that could provide an edge in the larger fight for the country.

Last week, rebels seized a hydroelectric dam and a major oil field, cutting off President Bashar Assad's regime from key resources necessary for its long-term survival. Rebels also seized an air defense base and fought near two other army installations in Syria's north.

Aleppo's airport is crucial in the broader fight for the city itself. Rebels launched an offensive on Aleppo in July, and quickly seized several neighborhoods. Since then, the fighting has settled into a bloody stalemate that has  destroyed entire districts, killed thousands and forced thousands more to flee their homes.

Determined to hang onto the city, Assad's regime has thrown troops and resources into the fight. But his army has faced difficulties in sending reinforcements to Aleppo since October, when rebels captured the strategic town of Maaret al-Numan, about 80 kilometres southwest of Aleppo.

Maaret al-Numan is on the highway that links Damascus with Aleppo. The regime has not been able to fly supplies since the Aleppo airport closed weeks ago due to the fighting.

The audiences will hear Devgn speak in Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi and Tamil in one particular scene for the first time ever. Apparently, the actor also underwent a special training to get the accent and the tone right of these languages.
When contacted Sajid about this news, he said, "Yes, Ajay has spoken in 5 languages in one particular scene where Tamannaah gets some goons to beat him up. All those guys belong to different regions. One is from Punjab, another is from Tamil Nadu, yet another from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Bengal. They challenge him to a duel in their own languages and that's when Ajay speaks to them in their respective languages. It's just not a word that he says, it's an entire dialogue, which is why I got a tutor on the sets."

A source close to the team said, "Yes, this is the 1st time you will hear Ajay Devgn speak so many languages at one time. We have incorporated this scene especially because we want to appeal to people from different regions of the country and we are sure people would appreciate the effort."

Well, hearing Devgn speak so many languages would surely be an interesting watch.
