Film Review - Players 2012

Director duo Abbas- Mustan known to deliver edge-of-the-seat thrillers each time, have certainly lost their gold touch tin their recent outing players. Despite an ensemble cast, stylish action sequences, awre striking twists in the tale and picturesque locales actress the globe, they couldn’t stand up to the audiences’ expectations. But what makes the move both worth watching (for three long hours at a stretch) is the ‘not-so-unpredictable’ plot hat keeps you hooked on to the screen.

Charlie (Abhishek Bachchan), the master of the game, is CA by day and a voice-modulating, ace conartish by night. Having learnt the tricks of the trade from his guru Victor Dada (Vinod Khanna), it is now his moral duty to make his teacher’s dreams come true, But Victor’s wish of building a world renowned orphanage in India has come with huge price. So Charlie is set out to pull off a heist that involves the Russian and Romanian Governments, along with the Russian mafia in tow. The biggest con job of his life require him to loot a heavily-guarded train, set off from Russia to Romania with gold worth thousand crores. But there is a hitch. He needs players’, smart enough to help him in his ‘job’.

And so a team of players is brought together by Victor, with each one proficient in a specific job, Ronnie (Bobby Deol) is a master illusionist, who was once known for his jaw dropping magic tricks, Sunny (Omi Vaidya) is a prosthetics expert, Bilai (Sikander Kher) is adept in handling explosives and spider aka spidy (Neil Nitin Mukesh) is master hacker, for whom, on computer cod or network is difficult to breach. Along with them is Charlie’s love interest Riya (Bipasha Basu), who casts her speel’ on men, robs them of their precious belongings and vanishes without being traced. These played now have to carry, out the raid of t heir life without getting caught.

They plan for months on end and put is into action. But once the gold-laden train in robbed, one of the players betrays the rest of the team and it is now time to get even with the trailer. And so the game of dog-chase-dog begins.

Abbas-Mustan try hard to put their act straight, but too many half-baked plots make their official remake of the Italian job, a tad too boring. It is made to suit the desi tastes and that is where the move falters. One such example is the train robbery sequence, which looks to childish and Bollywood-ish’. Also, enough Masala and song and dance routine mar the pace of the story. The adrenaline- pumping action scenes and the breath taking locations of Russia, Amsterdam and New Zealand are the saving graces, songs are a letdown but the few unpredictable twists in the story make up for  the loss.

Coming to the cast, Abhishek Bachchan is repetitive. His macho roles post- Dhoom have become too monotonous now. (may be he should try his ‘accent’ and attitude’ in a different genre). Bipasha Basu provides the oomph; sikander kher’s talent is left untapped. Omi Vaidya Just was n’t needed in the move and hey… where was Bobby D? Sonam Kapoor overacts. Neil Nitin Mukesh is the only ‘player’ to watch out for. He plays the bespectacled, nerdy character in the first half and them his switch over to a  completely different role is worth a mention. Vinod khanna is strictly okay.

The movie only gets interesting just close internal and half an hour post it! In nutshell, players can be best called a ‘Played down’ version of Italian Job. Strictly a one time watch.     

Missing Afternoon naps bad for toddlers

Does, your toddler miss out no afternoon naps? Beware, it may make your kid more stressed, unhappy and also increase the risk of life-lone mental health problems, a new US study has claimed.

Researches at the university of Colorado Boulder found that young kids who miss just one daytime nap become more anxious and less interested in the world around them.

They are also less excited by happy events and found the slighted stressful event hard to cope with. T he is because missing naps taxes the way toddlers express different feelings”, the researchers said and long term sleep deprivation, they warned, could even lead to lifelong, mood related problems, Daily Main reported.

For the study, the team measured the sleep patterns of toddlers aged two to three years. The kids wore a special device which measured how much they slept, with their parents also keeping a sleep log.

The researchers filmed the kids’ facial expressions as they completed two jigsaws on one day when they’d had their usual na, and on another when they’d been deprived of it.

The result, published in the journal of sleep Research, shows that third toddlers who successfully completed the first puzzle were 34 percent less positive in their emotional responses than when they’d been well rested.

And on being given another deliberately unsolvable puzzle the team noticed that the tired toddlers were a third more stressed by than when they’d enjoyed their usual nap.

Toddlers who had missed out one nap were also more than a third (39 percent) less curious about the unsolvable puzzle than when they were well rested, said Prof Le Bourgeois.

Prof LeBourgeois said: “A sleepy child in a classroom or nursery environment may not be able to engage with others and benefit from positive interactions.”

“This study shows insufficient sleep in the form of missing a nap taxes the way toddlers express different feelings, and overtime, may shape their developing emotional brains and put them at risk for lifelong, mood-related problems, just like good nutrition, adequate sleep in a basic need, “ she added.

''Agneepath'' is my hardest film till date: Hrithik Roshan

BollyWood star Hrithik Roshan, who has stepped in the shoes of legendary Abhitabh Bachchan in upcoming agneepath, says the remake version of the 1990 action thriller is the hardest film he has done till date.

Hrithik, who made his grand film debut in a leading role in Kaho Naa pyaar Hai in 2000, will reprise Bachchan’s Iconic role Vjay Deenanath Chauhan.

 Ashed whether agneepath will change his image as an actor, the 38 year old says, this is not in may hand, we are doing everything possible to make the film a success. I don’t believe in an image change. I only do films that I like and never think whether or not a movie will change my image.”

In case of agneepath I feel it is the hardest film that done ever… Especially the climax scence. Dia Mirza Fined by Customs Officers in Mumbai International Airport

Bollywood actress Dia Mirza was on Saturday fined over Rs. 1 lakh for carrying undeclared items worth Rs 2 lakh upon her arrival at the international airport here , a senior customs official said.

The actor landed at the airport at around 2am from Bangkok by a Thai Airways flight. She was passing through the green channel (used by passengers not having any dutiable good to declare) when she was stopped and aksed show her baggage, “  he said. During checking, the actor was found carrying undeclared items like branded purses and cosmetics worth Rs 2 lakh. This amounted to duty evasion. The official added.

Mirza was asked to pay a find of over Rs.1 lakh. She was allowed to go after she paid the amount, he said. The 30 year old model turned actress claimed she was not aware of customs rules about dutiable goods and did not intend to evade duty. The official added.Mirza is the latest film personality to land in trouble over declaration of dutiable goods. Last year Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba, among other film and Television personalities, were detained at the airport after they were found carrying undeclared goods.

The mini convertible is priced at Rs. 29.99 lakh, while the mini cooper S Country man has a price tag of rs. 31.99 lakh.

Maruti decided to Launching of MPV Ertiga in March 2012

The country’s Largest car market Maruti Suzuki India said it sis set to launch multi –purpose vehicle  Ertiga by end of March this year The new seven seater compact MPV was unveiled at the 11ht Auto Expo.

“We would like to start the sale of this car as quick as possible, but possibly, the commercial roll out would being by end of March or beginning of April this year, “ Maruti Suzuki india manager Director and CEO Shinzo Nakanishi told reporters. Without specifying the price of the new car, the company said, “it will be attractively priced.”

The company would manufacture the new car at this its plant in Gurgaon.

With Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki will step into the Utility Vehicle (UV) segment and effectively create a new compact MPV segment in India. According to an estimates provided by the company, the utility vehicle segment accounts for around 14 present of the India automobile industry and 66 percent of these are MPV, with new this car, the company will for the first time introduce K14 VVT 1.4 litre engine in India. The car will also be launched in diesel variant.

The company claims that fuel efficiency of the diesel variant (1.3 litre DDiS Super Turbo) with fuel efficiency of 20.77 Kmpl.

Two New Cars launched by General Motors

General Motors (GM) on Friday unveiled two new vechicles under Chevrolet brands that will be launched later this year in india.

The Chevrolet sail premium hatchback and Chevrolet MPV concept are the first two product from GM’s joint venture with shanghai Automotive industry corporation (SAIC). “The MPV (Multi Purpose Vechicle) will be launched in India by the end of this year and this hatchback will be commercially rolled out by june-july this year,“ Genral Motors india Vice president corporate affairs P Balendran said at the ongoing 11^th Auto Expo here.
